ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI), Karnal is India’s premier dairy institute involved in basic and applied research in the area of animal and dairy sciences. Established as Imperial Institute for Animal Husbandry and Dairying in Bangalore in 1923, the Institute has made significant contribution in the growth of Indian dairy industry and played a crucial role in India’s standing on top in milk production. The contribution of the institute in manpower development for dairy research, education and farming has been recognized as back bone for the Indian dairying. The Institute has achieved landmark success in the area of cloning by producing the world’s first buffalo cloned calf. In addition, the Institute has developed several technologies in the areas of Dairy Production, Processing and Management, many of which has been adopted by prominent dairy industries and farmers. In recognition for its achievements, the Institute was ranked first among all the Agricultural Universities of India consecutively for the past four years. The Institute is celebrating its centenary year-2022 marking the completion of 100 glorious years of its establishment.
